EST. 2007

The power of touch is a necessity built deep within us

Besides the known benefits of sore muscles and relaxation, massage has so many more benefits that we could all use in our lives. According to the Mayo Clinic, massage can help in the healing and treatment of anxiety, digestive disorders, fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia related to stress, myofascial pain syndrome, soft tissue strains or injuries, TMJ and sports injuries.

Studies on the benefits of massage therapy demonstrate that it can be an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. The National Centre for Complimentary and Integrative Health found through research that there is a 50% reduction of anxiety after massage (2018).

Beyond the benefits for specific conditions, some clients enjoy massage because it often produces feelings of caring, comfort and connection.

We All Need Physical Touch

Massage Therapy has been known to lower stress, decrease anxiety and reduce irritability. Along with increasing brain serotonin and dopamine, the combination of these effects can lead to a happier individual.
Studies confirm that touch has many important health benefits. Physical touch, such as hugging or massage, is known to activate the release of the hormone oxytocin and reduces cortisol levels leading to decreased anxiety, stress and depression. It also boosts the immune system and helps to maintain physical health.

More Is Better

Renowned family therapist and psychotherapist Virginia Satir said, “We need four hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth.” While that may sound like a lot of hugs, it seems that many hugs are better than not enough.
